7. Conclusion
Since most of the students had great difficulties in dealing with the unknown words encountered in different materials, I spent over four weeks designing and proceeding such a project to enhance the students ability of guessing new words to overcome their fear of unknown words while doing reading comprehension.
In my research, I used the analytic method and cause analysis, which were quite useful and could help me understand my project more deeply. I had my own project and hypothesis – to enhance students’ ability of guessing new words while doing reading comprehension. According to this, I designed some activities to try to solve the students’ problem and to improve the students’ ability through effective training. Then I implemented the project. After finishing implementing my project, I went on to do some analysis it to see if the students’ ability of guessing new words could be improved or not and I did it. Before my project implementation, only 18 percent, more or less of the students could overcome some difficulty of the new words in reading materials. But after I implemented the project, I found 83 percent of the students could solve the problem quite well and effectively. Besides this, More than 86 percent of the students felt more confident to do reading comprehension, comparing with only 15 percent of the number before. It was a great improvement.
The project benefited the students greatly in their English learning. On the other hand, I was also benefited, especially in my teaching. From this, I had learned a lot. That was valuable experience and important improvement in my teaching life. But it was just a beginning for me. I could gain more and more good experience in the future and do my word even better.
