I have been teaching the students who are in their third year of junior high. In my teaching, I’ve found there are some problems that have troubled me as well as some of my students for quite a long time. I hope I can apply my knowledge and theory that I have gained here into practice to find the solutions to the problems.

 

2. Summary of the Preliminary Research

This part of my study was conducted during May 6, 2004 ~ June 28, 2004.

 

2.1 Problem

Most of my students find it difficult to understand the meaning in context when there are many unknown words and phrases. If I tell them the meaning of these new words, they can understand the context easily and they do reading comprehension well. But next time, they will also find it difficult in understanding the meaning if I don’t tell them the meaning of unknown words and phrases. What can I do to help my students overcome the difficulty in understanding the meaning in context when there are many unknown words and phrases? That is one of my problems in my teaching.
