The world is becoming smaller and smaller. In our life we have to work and live with many different kinds of people includ-ing people from other countries. Communicating requires us to master each other's language. Of course, you can learn Japanese to talk with people from Japan. You can use French to discuss with Frenchmen. You may also have a conversation with Ger-mans in German… But as we see, it'll be very difficult for us to master so many kinds of languages. Maybe it'll take all the time in your life it you are a person who deals with international work. So here comes a question whether you can use only one language to communicate with the most people all over the world.

You must be very familiar with the song named "My Heart Will Go On" sung by Celine Dion. The rhythm of it is really beau-tiful and attractive, but it you can understand English you will be able to see the point of it well and communicate with the singers by your feelings. English is widely used in songs and most of the famous singers come from English-speaking countries. If you like music very much, you'd better master English. This kind of things also happen on many other areas of our life, such as sports, literature and so on.

If you are not interested in amusement, that's all right. You may be interested in your job. You'll talk about business. The most important thing for a company is to know the demands of the customers and use this information to make plans, develop the domestic and foreign markets. So in a sense, information is the life for all the businessmen. In the world, most business letters are written in English. Half the world's telephone calls are made in English. Three quarters of the world's books and newspapers are written in English. Using English is the fastest way to keep in touch with the modern world. That is also the reason why even in China the companies like people who can use English freely.

Since English is used more and more widely, many people foretell that English is likely to be an international language. A people who can't use English is really a deaf-mute in today's world.

Do you want to have happy amusement? Do you want to work well and widely? Please use English as a basic, powerful communicating tool but not a subject you have to be examined.

One and a half centuries ago, Marx said "A foreign lan-guages is a weapon in the struggle of life." Nowadays, foreign languages especially English are playing a more and more impor-tant part in society. Nobody wants to cut himself off from the various and marvelous world. Everyone needs English as a tool to communicate. Now, we can say in the way of Marx's statement that we learn and are learning English to communicate.
