As she walked round the large shop, Edith realized how   1   it was to choose a suitable Christmas   2   for her father.

She   3   that he were as easy to   4   as her mother, who was   5   satisfied with perfume (香水). 

  6  , shopping at this time of the year was a most   7   job. People   8   on your feet, pushed you with their   9   and almost   10   you over in their hurry in order to   11   something cheap ahead of you.

Partly to have a rest, Edith paused in front of a counter, where some beautiful ties were on   12  . “They are   13   silk,” the shop assistant told her with a smile trying to   14   her to buy one. But Edith knew from past   15   that her choice of ties   16   ever pleased her father.

She move on slowly and then, quite by chance, stopped where a small crowd of   17   had gathered round a counter. She found some fine pipes on sale and the     18   were very reasonable. Edith did not hesitate for   19  ; although her father   20   smoked a pipe once in a while, she knew this was   21   to please him.
