First of all, I would like to introduce myself to all of you in detail, My full English name is Harry G. Wan, (Harry is my first (given) name given by my first foreign teacher, for my wife’s Chinese family name is Gan, then I made the alphabet (G) be my middle English name; and as you know Wan is my Chinese family name). I have my own family now (my wife Joan and my dear son Kevin) , I also have an old brother and a young sister, they are with my father in Hefei now. By the way, my young sister got married on the first October last year and my old brother is still unmarried. Unfortunately, my dear mother was gone in April 2003. Without my dear mother, everything in my life became so difficult. Even now I still feel the same and of course I miss her very much whenever I feel depressed or pressed. After graduation in 1999, I became an English teacher in Anhui Xinhua vocation college and worked there for more than 2 years (from September, 1999 to March, 2003), during that time, I enjoyed myself very much for teaching English was my biggest dream. In order to earn more money, I also taught in some other colleges and got some experience of teaching at the same time. In March 2003, I was assigned to be vice president of Changsha Xinhua Computer College. Frankly, I felt very pessimistic at the beginning, for I did not have any experience of managing. Step by step, I succeeded in adapting myself to the teachers and jobs there.  I also began to realize that how difficult it is to be a very successful manager, most important of all ，I began to experience how cruel life is. And I will remember the year of 2003 in my life forever. I became vice-president of Changsha Xinhua Computer School in 2003, I lost my dear mother in 2003 and I obtained my dear son in 2003.After about 7 months, I got the opportunity of working in Nanchang Xinhua Computer college, working there for more than 1 year. I was again assigned to work here with all of you. I enjoy myself here very much for every one of you here is so excellent that I feel very satisfied. Ok, it should be over, and that is my poor introduce of myself. Do hope that you have not felt annoyed until now.

      Secondly, I am very glad to give you my poor experience of learning English. In my mind, there are five aspects of the English language that you are supposed to master. They are listening comprehension, spoken English, reading, writing and translation or interpreting. It is without saying that oral English is the most important to most of English learners. With fluent oral English, you can communicate with any English speaker, which fully embodies of the function of English. Then how to improve your oral English, first you must realize that what you speak in English only comes from what you hear from other English speakers. To be specific, you first need much practice in all kinds of listening comprehension, you can listen to some kinds of English programmes on radio (Voice of America, British Broadcasting Corporation and China International and so on) or watch TV programmes(cctv-9 for example) and try your best to imitate what you hear (for example your favorite sentences according to your own nature)and pronunciations( American one, British one, or Canadian one or Australian one), by the way, American pronunciation is the most popular nowadays, sometimes you also should write down what you are interested in so that it can enlarge you horizon on one hand, on the other hand, it will build you confidence in English. One point that I have to mention here is that reading aloud by yourself is also beneficial to improving your listening comprehension for when you are reading, you are also listening to yourself. As time goes on, you will be more familiar with the pronunciations of some so called new words. The more you listen to in English, the more you can speak in English. After you are adequate in listening comprehension, what you have to do next step is to practice speaking. If you are a student, you can organize your classmates or roommates to discuss the interesting topic in English, if you are a worker or teacher or something, why not find some of your colleagues to talk with in English. Sometimes, it is very important to organize those people who have much in common to hold a speech where you can give your own opinions freely. Someone of you will say that it is always difficult for me to find anyone around to talk with in English, and then why not talk with yourself. When I was a college student, I often practiced talking with myself in my room. I put a big mirror on the wall, standing in front of it, putting forward some questions for myself and then answered the questions with the body languages which I imitated from other English speakers, you of course can follow it if you like. I am sure that you will benefit much from that. It is well known that the best way of practicing oral English is to communicate with native English speakers, the more you can experience their culture, the more you will be confident in your oral English. We all know that culture is carried by languages . So perfection in English needs much culture knowledge of English speaking countries. Speaking culture, I would like to give you some specific examples, which involves the difference of culture.
